A tough day at the office for the Roos as we took on the undefeated reigning premiers at home.
Several changes with Jonesy, Tank, Simmo, Ads, Jewy and Stewie coming out of the side, for D Smith, Rhino, Crash, Lochy, Rhys, Brucey and Joey Q in for his first game of the season. Congratulations to Elf who played his 100th game for the club, a big effort for a true clubman, it was great to see him reach the milestone. Thank you to Christo the “banner maker extraordinaire” for making the banner for Elf, another quality piece of work.
The game went according to plan, unfortunately it was Gidgies plan, as they quickly showed the skill and ability that has them on top of the ladder, only inaccuracy had us in the game at quarter time. A brilliant piece of gamesmanship from Braedo got our first goal as he took on the man on the mark from long range.
Gidge found the radar in the second quarter as they kicked away. It wasn’t without its highlights for the Roos with Elfie crumbing a great goal and Rhys showing he always knows where to be in the forward line, kicking another after taking a strong mark.
A shift of Rhino in to the forward line in the third quarter saw him pop up for his first goal for the club, our only one for the quarter.
Another shift in the last with Scotty moving forward to kick a cracking goal, also a first and you couldn’t wipe the smile of his face as Chook and D Smith trekked from the backline to congratulate him!
When it was all said and done we had come up a long way short, giving the boys a big dose of reality.
Seppa picked up the Mundaring Celebrations best player award, Rhino The Mahogany Inn award for second best and Greggy rounded out the top three receiving the Della award for his hard work in the backline and through the middle.
Stuart Rodger continued on his good form and will happily enjoy his Croissant at Pa’s Patisserie after receiving fourth best, Elfie picked up the Mr Magic award for his efforts and LG took the Coaches award after playing a solid game down back, safe to say he was pretty happy, however I’m not sure if he’s got any coin left after a quick trip to Northbridge! Shaggy and TBag again rucked tirelessly, Chook and Dave Smith worked hard down back and the young fellas in Beavo, Braeden and Musto battled hard all day.
Thanks to the ladies in the canteen, Graeme for running the water and for the new bottles, the boys didn’t know what to do when the water only came out of the top of the bottle! Another challenge for the boys this week as we take on Mounties fresh from their win against Parky, it’s a must that we bounce back, give our all and get reward for effort.
Go Roos!
