The Bushrangers away was the mission for the Roos on yet another windy day. The boys were out to gain some respect after a dismal effort in the earlier round against Parky.
Several outs from the team who played Pickers with Kizza, Rhys, Crash, Rhino, D Smith Brucey and Lochy making way for Stewie, Tinsel, Ads, Connor and Beavo fresh from his trip to NZ!
A solid start to the game with Shaggy rucking well in the middle of the ground, Tank and Tyson driving the ball regularly into our forward line. We were wayward in our efforts and when Tank kicked for goal on the siren and missing, we had kicked two goals six for the quarter with the breeze.
Parky came out firing in the second quarter taking full advantage of the breeze and accurate goal kicking to blow the game wide open, moving from a nine point deficit to a twenty eight point lead at half time.
A few Roos were challenged to lift in the second half, with Chook moving to a wing and Greggy moving up on to a back flank. The moves paid dividends with quick goals to Tinsel and Ad’s coming from some great work further up the field and when Elf kicked his first for the day, a long running goal, we were back to seven points down at the last change.
Some nasty knocks to Musto and Seppa had them on the sidelines for the last quarter the challenge was firmly set to the boys on the ground, an early goal to Tinsel gave us the momentum and when Elfie kicked his second from the goal square, all be it a do over, we were a point in front.
We were beginning to fade with the lack of bench support and Parky lifted to kick the last two goals of the game, closing it out to win by thirteen points.
A big effort from the boys a turnaround from a twenty goal flogging the previous encounter to a two goal loss showed the improvement we have had in the side, however honourable losses won’t help us play finals and we have to capitalise on our opportunities.
Tank won the Celebrations Mundaring Best player award in his second game back from injury, Tyson picked up the Mahogany Inn Second best award, Jonesy continued his great form on the half back line, third best picking up the Della award and Greggy won the Pa’s Patisserie award for his courage and effort in the backline. Tinsel picked up the Mr Magic Award for his four goals with Chook picking up the Coaches Award for his second half efforts on the wing!
Shaggy in the ruck had another great game, Dev, Stuart and Beavo had strong games through the middle and Elfie made the most of his opportunities to kick a couple in the forward line.
An eventful week on and off the track and some special mentions must go out to Shaggy who decided to practice his tackling skills on the job, Greggy who decided to put a show on at the Inn, with a graceful fall of his chair and last but not least to Elfie who did the unthinkable and kicked into the man on the mark from the goal line!
Reigning premiers this week boys, a great opportunity to see where we are at, if we continue to put in 100% effort and work together as a team we will show big improvement from our round one outing.
Go Roos!
